To implement the consensus reached during the meeting between the heads of state of China and Uruguay and deepen the China-Uruguay comprehensive strategic partnership, on the afternoon of April 17, Aníbal Cabral, Ambassador of Uruguay to China, Matías Benítez, Consul General of Uruguay in Guangzhou, and their delegation visited the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center. The two sides held a symposium focusing on sci-tech cooperation, university collaboration and talent exchange to explore new opportunities for China-Uruguay sci-tech cooperation.
At the symposium, Chen Baiman, Director of the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center, introduced the center’s progress in serving national diplomatic initiatives and building a China-Latin America technological innovation and transformation system. He highlighted the achievements of cooperation between the center and Universidad Tecnológica del Uruguay and Universidad ORT Uruguay. He stated that Uruguay is an important partner of China, and expressed hope that the two sides will further deepen information connectivity and resource sharing, so as to expand bilateral sci-tech cooperation to deeper levels and broader fields.
Aníbal Cabral pointed out that scientific and technological innovation is a key area of China-Uruguay bilateral cooperation. Uruguay is home to national-level sci-tech centers that bring together resources from multiple universities, and Uruguay is ready to promote regular linkage between these centers and the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center, build a bridge for exchanges with government resources, and support the center to become an important platform for deepening China-Uruguay relations. Matías Benítez noted that promoting exchanges between Chinese and Uruguayan universities and research institutions is a key responsibility of the consulate general. The consulate will actively coordinate Uruguayan academic and research resources, maintain close communication with the center, and jointly deepen practical cooperation in the sci-tech field.
After the meeting, with the support of the Embassy of Uruguay in China and the Consulate General of Uruguay in Guangzhou, the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center will further strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Uruguayan institutions including Universidad Tecnológica del Uruguay and Universidad ORT Uruguay. It will focus on advancing the development of the China-Uruguay Digital Education Center system, orderly carry out recruitment of Uruguayan participants for the second "Latin America Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program and Innovation Tour in China for Latin American Young Scientists", and jointly apply for international sci-tech projects under the new-era "China-Latin America and Caribbean Countries (LAC) Science and Technology Partnership Program". In the future, the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center will continue to give play to the advantages of a national-level sci-tech exchange platform, actively promote the connection of China-Uruguay scientific and technological innovation resources, support both sides in achieving mutual benefit and win-win results in sci-tech achievement transformation and industrial coordinated development, and contribute new impetus to deepening the China-Latin America comprehensive cooperative partnership.
