This year marks the 54th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico. The two countries enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. Their bilateral relations have been continuously deepened under the strategic guidance of head-of-state diplomacy, and exchanges and cooperation in education and scientific research have grown increasingly close. On April 13, a delegation from the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) visited the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center for a symposium, aiming to expand cooperation space, further advance the integrated development of China-Mexico science and education, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.
Representatives attending the meeting included Daniel Dominguez, Acting Consul General of the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou, Miguel Uribe, Consul, Adalberto Noyola, Director of the UNAM Representative Office in China, Raúl López Parra, Commissioner for Communications and Promotion of the UNAM Representative Office in China, and Chen Baiman, Director of the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center.
At the meeting, Chen Baiman stated that the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center has always adhered to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits to deepen cooperation and exchanges with Latin America. Relying on platforms such as the Latin America Research Institute of the CLTTC and the China-LAC Digital Education University Alliance, the center has built a three-dimensional scientific and technological cooperation system integrating "research, education, trade and law". Meanwhile, it has continuously linked forces from all sectors in Latin America, expanded the overseas innovation cooperation network, and injected scientific and technological impetus into China’s further expansion of high-level opening-up.
Adalberto Noyola reviewed the history of cooperation between the two parties and presented the achievements and development of UNAM in technology transfer. After in-depth discussions, the two sides reached consensus on a number of cooperation initiatives: firstly, they will jointly establish an overseas sub-center in Mexico, formulate a work plan with the support of the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou, and steadily advance the development of the overseas network layout; secondly, they will strengthen academic cooperation including think tank reports and journal development of the Latin America Research Institute, and invite UNAM researchers to contribute to journals and conduct joint research; thirdly, they will deepen university education cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, recommend young Latin American scientists to participate in the second "Latin America Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program and Innovation Tour in China for Latin American Young Scientists" of the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center, and collaborate effectively on the co-construction of digital courses and the joint development of the "Mexico Science and Technology Corner".
Daniel Dominguez affirmed the cooperation achievements made by the two sides, stating that the consulate will continue to play a bridging role, actively seek entry points to facilitate China-Mexico exchanges, build a more solid bridge for bilateral cooperation, and promote practical cooperation between the two sides to achieve deeper, more solid, higher-quality and more effective results.
This symposium has further strengthened information connectivity and resource sharing between the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center, UNAM and the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou, and consolidated the foundation for cooperation among all parties. In the future, the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center will continue to uphold the concept of high-level opening-up, take science and technology as a link, continuously deepen friendly cooperation with all sectors in Mexico, and inject sustained impetus into building a China-Latin America community with a shared future.
